Altec is currently looking for a Human Resources Representative in Birmingham, AL. This position supports our Corporate Human Resources Business Partners by assisting with complex and specialized administrative tasks, which may include recruitment and employment, associate records, associate and/or labor relations, job evaluation, compensation management, benefits administration, organizational development, and/or payroll and training.

Altec specializes in the manufacture, sale and service of aerial devices, digger derricks, cranes and specialty equipment for the electric utility, telecommunications, tree care, construction, and light and sign maintenance industries in more than 120 countries throughout the world.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists in interpreting and explaining human resources policies, procedures, benefits, laws, standards, or regulations 
  • May perform searches for qualified job candidates, using sources such as computer databases, networking, Internet recruiting resources, social media advertisements, job fairs, recruiting firms, or associate referrals
  • Maintains and updates human resources documents, such as work instructions
  • Submits benefit updates and payroll requests
  • Administers direct deposit and tax updates for associates
  • Kronos timekeeping administration
  • Onboards associates and processes hiring-related paperwork, including responsibility for proper E-verify I-9 verification
  • Assists in ensuring company compliance with federal and state laws, including reporting requirements
  • Prepares or maintains employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, supervisor changes, or promotions, using human resources management system software
  • May be responsible for conducting exit interviews and ensuring necessary employment termination paperwork is completed
  • Provide switchboard/receptionist relief (as needed)
  • All other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) and no experience or HS plus 4 years of applicable HR experience
• Excellent computer skills required; Prefer Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and/or Kronos experience
