Welder Team Lead
POSITION SUMMARY: Lead and coordinate the activities of other associates in the welding department. Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE: Five or more years of welding experience.
TOOLS: Calipers and other measuring devices, drills, grinders, hammers, saws, sheers.
EQUIPMENT/MACHINES: Welding machinery, cutting tools, brake press, grinder, clamps to hold down steel.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Pulsarc welding, stick welding, aluminum welding, stainless steel welding, MIG, TIG, seam, and submersible arc welding, ability to cut with a torch and plasma, arc gouging. Ability to read a blueprint, mathematical knowledge (dimensions, basic skills), reading, writing, basic computer knowledge.
Certified in the above welding techniques, American Welding Society certified, non-destructive testing of weld certified. Ability to become Altec weld certified.
Training and testing to ensure proper use of a respirator.

*Leads associates in following all safety regulations for the individual as well as other employees, including keeping the work area clean and in orderly condition as well as wearing all appropriate safety attire for the job that is being performed.
*Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of goods in their area of responsibility.
*Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports, in order to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
*Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
*Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
*Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
*Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees, or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
*Observe work and provide feedback to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
*Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or other issues.
*Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
*Operate safety equipment, and use safe work habits.
*Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
*Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
*Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
*Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials, and notify supervisors.
*Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
*Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
*Examine workpieces for defects, and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
*Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
*Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
*Travel to other designated Altec locations to identify and correct problems with equipment.
*Train and certify welders using Altec written and hands on certifications.
*Check pic lists to ensure all parts needed for welding assemblies are available.
*Assist engineers in resolving issues and correcting problems throughout the welding department.
*Respond to hazardous waste incidents or releases due to release of hazardous waste or hazardous materials until HAZMAT officials arrive on the scene.
