Responsibilities

The Scrum Master will be responsible to guide, coach and motivate the team with the goal of increasing productivity. This position provides leadership helping the team to adhere to the rules of Scrum and work within and outside the team to remove impediments. This role is expected to create and foster an environment of transparency and continuous improvement by proactively communicating with the team, management and outside stakeholders.

Essential Duties

  • Focuses the Agile team on delivering planned value
  • Provides all support to the team using a servant leadership style and leading by example
  • Guides the team and Altec associates on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values
  • Guides the team on how to get the most out of self-organization
  • Actively works to address and eliminate impediments beyond the team’s authority or items that require support from other teams
  • Guides the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
  • Builds an environment of continuous improvement and encourages a healthy intra-team dynamic by facilitating team retrospectives, coaching team on problem solving and conflict resolution, and escalating issues when necessary
  • Coordinates with other teams passing information to others and back to the team as needed
  • Facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Builds a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving
  • Assists with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Supports and educates the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining (aka grooming) and managing the product backlog
  • Guides the team through estimating and forecasting

Required Skills/Experience         

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline strongly preferred, but consideration may be given to exceptional candidates with 4 years relevant work experience
  • Previous experience coaching, training or developing teams
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Ability to deliver medium to large scale project communications with clarity, confidence and enthusiasm
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and multiple commitments / projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage project teams and leadership within a corporate setting
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
  • Previous experience as a collaborative leader
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills
  • Must work in Birmingham, Alabama
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a Scrum Team
  • Scrum Master certification (PSM, CSM, CSP, CTC)
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and best practices (PMBOK, ITIL, SDLC, Agile, etc)
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Agile applications such as Jira and Confluence
  • Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team
