PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Assist painters by performing duties of lesser skill. Duties include using small hand tools and cleaning work area and equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow all safety regulations for the individual as well as other employees, including keeping the work area clean and in orderly condition as well as wearing all appropriate safety attire for the job that is being performed.
• Clean work areas and equipment.
• Perform support duties to assist painters.
• Apply protective coverings such as masking tape to articles or areas that could be damaged or stained by work processes.
• Perform body repairs on areas of surfaces to be painted where dents or defects are visible. 
• Supply or hold tools and materials.
• Smooth surfaces of articles to be painted, using sanding and buffing tools and equipment.
• Remove articles from the chassis or bed of trucks to avoid being painted.
• Direct other paint prep personnel on correct duties to be performed.
• May include exposure to minor painting duties including spraying Gatorhyde
• Perform all duties assigned by the supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work in an environment that is not environmentally controlled, including very hot conditions in the summer months and little heat in the winter. May also include being exposed to high place, using ladders or scaffolds, and working with hazardous equipment and under hazardous conditions on a daily basis. Required to wear protective safety attire including steel toe boots or shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, and respirator masks.  

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum one years of paint prep/painting experience is preferred.

TOOLS:

Small hand tools, scaffolds, ladders.

EQUIPMENT/MACHINES:

Sanders.

Attention to detail.
