Founded in 1929, Altec is a privately held company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Responsibilities
Function:
Supervises the daily performance of Safety Specialists at the facility level. Must be able to lead implementation of safety objectives at a local level. A position at this level will have at least two associates as direct reports at a Facility Coordinator or Facility Specialist level.
Duties
- Supervises the identification of hazardous workplace conditions.
- Oversees the collection of samples and measurements of hazardous materials, and the coordination of the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards.
- Supervises, participates and develops the training of employees on safety policies, procedures, regulations.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines.
- Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in a professional safety capacity. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks.
Must be willing to travel up to 25% of time, potentially on short notice, which may include air travel
Current Valid Driver's License
Must be able to work with teams and work with minimal supervision
Internal candidates will be an associate in good standing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Basic S&H Principles
Basic application of regulatory standards (OSHA or DOT) - OHSA 30 hours training
Application of simple hazard assessments (e.g. JHA/JSA)
Basic Hazard recognition skills (e.g. Guarding, slips, etc.)
Simple problem solving abilities (e.g. job and/or gap analysis, etc.)
Root Cause Analysis - Participate in 5 whys, cause mapping
Continuous Improvement at an individual level (e.g. Housekeeping, procedure, etc.)
