Job Description


JJ Kane is currently looking for a Technical Sales Representative . Technical Sales team members play an important role in revenue and profit growth for named accounts while providing creative, custom solutions for our customers. The ideal candidate would be based out of the corporate offices in Birmingham, or another major Altec facility. If not living in Birmingham the applicant would need to travel to the Corporate offices occasionally. 


The position will distinguish our organization with professionalism, best practices and deliverables that build customer loyalty. Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Interact with customers in ways that add value, occasionally entertain customers ensuring a positive experience.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Altec products, customers, administrative and production processes.
  • Serve customers by providing quotes, pricing, change orders, shipping and delivery information, while also facilitating quality issues and hosting factory tours and inspections.
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to communicate customer needs and propose solutions.
  • Participate in events to continuously improve our organization and our team members.


  • Work with Account Managers and Area Sales Managers in responding to quote requests from our customers
  • Standardize JJ Kane responses to quote requests, presenting the company in the best possible way
  • Efficiently capture & communicate customer requirements
  • Develop and maintain competitive intelligence tools, to support pricing decisions
  • Grow knowledge of competitors, customers, operations, and sales processes
  • Serve as single point of contact for Account Managers to quote new opportunities
  • Provide guidance on competitive marketplace to Regional Sales Managers
  • Build product knowledge to identify and understand potential value of quoting opportunities
  • Aid Account Managers in projecting future Gross Auction Proceeds (GAP) and revenue on each quote through competitive intelligence searches
  • Interact directly with customers in a professional manner; Occasionally entertain customer visits, or travel to customer sites and ensure customers leave knowing that JJ Kane provided a hospitable visit, and our relationship was furthered as a result
  • Provide guidance on using cooperative purchasing contracts such as Sourcewell
  • Demonstrate consistent progress towards proficiency in areas of training (defined by training objectives document)
  • Attend classroom and online training sessions to enhance skills and build knowledge
  • Participate in events to continuously improve our organization
  • All other duties as assigned

Should the selected candidate meet the qualifications of a more experienced level in the career path, the job level may be adjusted.

• Bachelor’s Degree required

• Available for overnight travel more than 15% of the time required
• Associate must be proficient in math and with computers, specifically Microsoft software 
• Must be able to analyze problems & develop solutions
• Good communication skills are a must
• Candidate must be able to independently manage their time and tasks 
• Demonstrated proficiency in System & Process, Build & Product Knowledge, Customer, People Skills, and Foundational Skills
