PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This is a dynamic leadership role responsible for engaging and energizing the team to achieve world class performance in creating a safe workplace and ensuring environmental compliance. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, has a proven track record of educating and motivating people to deliver results, and is ready to take ownership for the growth and development of our associates!

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises one or more associates within the department
  • Understands federal, state & local safety/environmental laws & regulations
  • Responds promptly to emergency events such as associate injury, property damage, or chemical spill
  • Investigates and reports all accidents and incidents
  • Creates and implements corrective actions for safety and environmental issues
  • Assists in spill clean-up and coordinates waste pickup and disposal with approved service providers
  • Develops, implements, and monitors environmental and safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Performs routine safety and environmental testing activities such as air, paint, and water sampling
  • Ensures adequate supply of safety and environmental equipment is available for use
  • Prepares, submits, and files required safety and environmental reports
  • Oversees safety and environmental compliance inspections and routine internal audits
  • Identifies workplace conditions that could be unsafe or non-compliant and takes action to mitigate those risks
  • Presents environmental, health and safety communications in plant meetings and classroom settings
  • Identifies safety and environmental training needs and ensures that current content is available and being used 
  • Leads efforts and RCI events to improve our Safety and Environmental roadmap programs
  • Other duties as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Daily face-to-face engagement with Altec leadership and production associates
  • Schedule flexibility required for 2nd and 3rd shift when support is needed (celebrations, training, investigations, etc.)
  • Role requires frequent walking inside and outside on the property to perform audits and ensure compliance
  • Outdoor activities may be subject to unfavorable weather, including hot or cold, rain, snow and/or windy conditions
  • Production floor includes electrical and mechanical hazards, chemicals, elevated surfaces, moving objects, vibrations, noise and the presence of weld smoke and fumes may exist

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree required and 4 years of experience in a professional safety capacity
  • Willing and able to become First Responder, CPR, HAZWOPER, and forklift operator certified
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must handle stress and deadlines well
  • Maintain company and associate confidentiality
  • Willing to travel 25% or less of the time, potentially on short notice which may include flying
  • Maintain a current valid driver’s license

Should the selected candidate meet the qualifications of a more experienced level in the career path, the job level may be adjusted.
